MacHome Journal's HotTips Book Of The Month Oct/2000Book of the month for October 2000.
Of the plethora of iMac books released since the computer's inception, I found this the clearest and most comprehensive. I like the "DO" angle, as opposed to providing an endless list of technical information. It may not be the best choice for a power-user in a quest for in-depth geektech info (well... You should have the AppleSource CDs if you are a Mac professionnal!), but every beginner and newcomer would benefit from owning a copy.

This Book Is All You Need!
Excellent, comprehensive manual for any iMac user

Good, basic guide to puttingI had bought Dave Pelz' Putting Bible earlier, thinking that would be the only book I would ever have to buy on putting, but was quite disappointed in the approach of that book. Sone's book gives much more useful information.
At the same time, it is a concise, quick read, and is arranged in a way that makes it easy to go back to certain chapters at a later date for a refresher.
Highly reccommended.
Putting is an arm stroke not a pendulum or shoulder stroke.
I'm glad I bought itTodd Sones' advice to position your hand underneath your shoulder appears to work best if you have a straight arm without an elbow. If you have an elbow, the arm's center of mass seems to force the hand slightly ahead of the shoulder, if you let the arm hang naturally.
Also, the front-view photos of different grips on page 18 aren't sufficient to understand what the text refers to.
But these are quibbles that don't prevent this book from getting five stars from me.

OMG! A Golden book! For the first thing, it includes first quality golden retriever photos, very cute! You witness the miracles of goldens throughout this book.
HOWEVER!, this book DOES NOT include how to take care of your beatiful golden. You may need another book to guide you and help you with the topics of health, training and history of golden retrievers.
I can call this book a "reference" book, it is really valuable and a must-own for both poeple who own goldens and who don't. If you like photography and animals, and art-- this book is for you.
A Golden Book!

A story about love and trust wrapped up in a murder mysteryBut that by no means should dissuade you from reading it. Zimmerman is a superb writer and crafter of detail. And while this book may be filed in the murder mystery section, it is more about love, trust and fidelity than it is about who done it.
No finer work have I read that delves into the issues of what makes relationships work, and the rocky road that Todd Mills and Steve Rawlins travel is realistically and lovingly portrayed.
Like any true murder mystery, we have a dead body by the second page. And we know that something is afoot by the end of the first chapter. If you have ever struggled through issues of fidelity and trust in your relationship, you will read nothing truer than the doubt and tricks the mind plays Zimmerman pens in these pages. And there's an excellent murder mystery mixed in to boot.
So why just four instead of five stars? Without giving it all away, let's just say I think Zimmerman didn't tie up all the loose ends as neatly as he should have. There is still one thing left unexplained, significant in my view. And the other problem is mere careless editing I think. And that is when we read the first chapter from Todd's point of view, we realize he is curious about Tim Chase: is the actor gay or straight? Good enough. But then we get to the chapter about Tim Chase and we get the same unnecessary information, or rather, the question is posed in a very bothersome and redundant manner. Minor yes, but with a writer of Zimmerman's caliber, I think he should have caught that.
Better than following the news of Tom & Nicole!
Never let the facts stand in the way of a good story! My biggest complaint is that Zimmerman is inaccurate when it comes to how things work in the TV business. I've done it all... from floor directing... to producing... to what I'm currently doing, Anchoring in Market 5, San Francisco for the last 12 years. TV news veterans will quickly see that Zimmerman tried to understand the TV business, but didn't completly get it. Especially when it comes to tv terminology. For example, never in my life, nor in the lives of my fellow journalists (who also can't put the book down) has any reporter done a VOSOT in 20 seconds, as was the case in INNUENDO. Not that it's impossible, just ridiculous. (You tv folks will know what I mean) There are a few other cases, but you get my drift.
But if you're not a TV News person like myself, you will find this book and all his others facinating reads! Don't NOT buy the book. Just don't believe every word he has to say about the TV business. Listen to me rant and rave. I'm a TV reporter for God's sake. Who believes us anyway.

Detailed analysis of various strategiesReese and Glassman examine the most respected investment advisors today and detail not only their philosophy but also the level of risk the investor should be comfortable with and the level of effort the investor needs to put forth to follow that person's advice.
Each expert is analyzed one at a time including the criteria they use for investing, how they determine if a stock meets that criteria or not and examples of individual stocks with an analysis of where they pass and fail the selected criteria. The analysis is detailed and yet straight forward so that someone with minimal experience in stocks can understand the basis philosophy.
Who are these investors that are analyzed? Only the most revered names in stock investng: Peter Lynch, Benjamin Graham, William O'Neil, Warren Buffett, The Motley Fool, David Dreman, Martin Zweig, Kenneth L. Fisher, and James O'Shaughnessy.
Most of the experts selected have written their own books on how to invest. This book distills down all the fluff and long winded information in the other books to a single chapter on each advisor, a chapter with all the information required to follow that person's style. So, I guess you have a choice, buy several books and read them all or buy this one and get all the knowledge as well as a detailed step by step plan of how to follow their investing style. Complete analysis (even on those who have not written a book), risk profile information, detailed examples of how to apply the methods, and simple pass/fail criterion information, the information is complete, easy to understand and easy to apply, there is nothing not to like about this book! If you are an investor or want to try your hand at it or have a self-directed IRA or similar instrument then you owe it to yourself to read this book, select at least a style that is appropriate for you and apply it.

A journey through knowledge begins with but a single, small step --as ancient seers would remind us. "The History Highway" offers anyone (older or young) a "roadmap" to their own choice of any of 2000 or so stepping off points. For example, "images taken from the Bayeaux Tapestry [embroidery 230 feet long; the original story document presented to an illiterate population] make this a visually appealing and useful site (Norman Invasion of England, 1066)". But wait, there's more: "Periodic updates to the text are available online."
Our new digital lifestyle can (will?) transform Academia "before you can say Great Scott!" Or at least, for certain, a lot more quickly than the Gutenberg effect transformed schooling and culture.
